About Stephanie Bauer
Celebrating the Beauty of Imperfection
Self-described as a serial nincompoop, bad speller, and good painter, Stephanie Bauer creates lush and luminous artworks using gouache, watercolor, acrylic paint, and ink. Her work stems from a love of paint and process — the end product is usually a happy accident, and she is delighted by the serendipity of the entire adventure.
The Inspiration
Stephanie finds inspiration in curious shapes, wobbly lines, and the charm of animals and flowers that seem to have their own secret stories. She's endlessly inspired by art and ceramic museums, where textures, motifs, and colors tell stories across time. Flowers spark her palette, but animals — with their humor, grace, and personalities — are her greatest muses.
The Process
Stephanie begins every painting by asking herself what she finds funny about her subject. She exaggerates imperfections, celebrating the beautiful and endearing quirkiness of everything she paints. Her designs celebrate the playful harmony between the natural and the handmade, where curiosity leads the way and imperfection adds charm.
Every print begins as an original hand-painted artwork created in her Cave Creek, Arizona studio. Each piece is reproduced using archival inks on premium heavyweight matte paper, personally signed and hand-printed for museum-quality results.
